Christmas ornaments are one of my favorite crafts, and this winter-themed one is no exception. Years ago I made a version of these little winter hat ornaments at an elementary school class party. With a few changes, here's my updated version of these sweet little yarn hats. This craft is an easy one to fit in even in the "busy-ness" of the holiday season. Give it a try!

Supply List for Mini Winter Yarn Hats
- Recycled cardboard tubes from toilet paper or paper towels
- Yarn (I used this Lion Brand yarn assortment for the ornaments pictured.)
- Small white pom-poms (.75 inch pom-poms used in pictured project)
- Ornament hangers or ribbon
How to Assemble Your Winter Hat Yarn Craft
First, cut a ring from the cardboard tube. (I made mine 3/4-inch wide.)
Next, tie a 10-inch piece of yarn around the the cardboard ring using a lark’s head knot. Repeat until the cardboard ring is completely covered.
Once the cardboard ring is completely covered, use another piece of yarn to tie a knot around the ends as pictured.
Push the knotted ends back through the ring to create the hat shape.
Finish by hot-gluing a small pom-pom to the top and adding an ornament hanger or piece of ribbon for hanging.
Aren’t they cute? I love the versatility and the simplicity of this craft.
Wouldn't they be cute adorning a centerpiece for any winter event? Maybe at a sledding party or even a ski team banquet?!
Why not try making them in school or team colors and string a bunch for a fun and easy way to dress up a buffet, dessert table, or hot chocolate bar?
Or, pair them with other winter-themed ornaments like these sled ornaments from Fireflies + Mud Pies or these popsicle stick skis found on Virginia Sweat Pea for another fun garland variation.
The possibilities are endless:)
